Descrição
This data is derived from the archive of Prof. Reinhold Tüxen at the Leibniz University Hannover, which contains around 45,000 offprints, newspaper articles, correspondence, maps and numerous unpublished plant and vegetation data from Lower Saxony and Northern Germany and is of crucial importance for assessing long-term effects on biodiversity. This collection, managed at the Institute of Geobotany, is particularly valuable for the analysis of historical species occurrences and their reactions to global changes.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Dados Sobre o Projeto
Almost a million plant and animal species are threatened with extinction - estimates the World Biodiversity Council. However, precise statistics are lacking, which is why the situation could be even worse. The aim of the "Digispezies" project is to improve the data basis by evaluating articles in scientific journals. The Institute of Geobotany at LUH houses one of the world's largest historical collections of species occurrences since the 19th century. This includes the extensive collection of occurrence records from the estate of the German botanist and plant sociologist Reinhold Tüxen. This includes around 100,000 printed articles with millions of data points on plant distribution, mainly from Lower Saxony and neighboring areas. The project team wants to digitize such scientific articles and extract tables that document the occurrence of plant species in different places and at different times. These data sets can then be combined with other data sets, for example those provided by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation on the distribution of species. Extracting and interpreting the diversity of tables contained in such articles is a major challenge. In addition, the geobotanical vocabulary, which has changed over the years, will be compared. The extracted data will be made available as knowledge graphs for further research. The project thus aims to make an important contribution to the preservation of biodiversity in Lower Saxony and Germany.
